Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same, you wanna go where everybody knows your name.

Day One: First Step

I'm going to bypass all of the random postings of particular things on my mind, go out on a limb and just talk about my day. What has happened to me today, or even in the pass couple of days. I feel the need to write, for some odd reason, so that's what I'm going to do. So yesterday, me and my Grandma set out to go to Quinlan and Fabish (which is a music store) to set up payments on a violin I've been using. Naturally, my grandma is fairly slow in getting ready--she's definitely not the most punctual person in the world and I've definitely inherited that gene from her--and she blows up at me when I mentioned the time. She felt I was rushing her and she doesn't like to be rushed.

We get to Q&F and I'm literally expecting the worse to happen. You know that song by Eminem, "Lose Yourself?" There's a verse that says, "He's nervous but on the surface he looks calm and ready..." change the word to she, and that was me at that very moment. Literally as soon as we walk in and tell the lady at the desk that we want to set up a payment plan, she turns us over to the manager (I think it was the manager) who threatened to repossess the instrument. Because of my tactic skills and my grandmother's presence, we got the manager to call the "Central Office" and change their mind about repossession of the precious violin I had become so close to. The good news? I got out of this slump I've been in with this violin, a down payment has been made (as of an hour ago), and we got to be put on a payment plan. The bad news? The down payment was $500. There goes any thoughts of my getting anything for Christmas (or my birthday).

I feel fine about getting nothing for Christmas or my Birthday. I'm just glad this Q&F hell I've been burning in the past few months is over. Of course my grandmother now hates my teacher, but that has nothing to do with me. Upon leaving Q&F, we stopped at good ole' Saint Mary's and I had a nice chat with Susan Vanek, Dean of Students. I found myself in a situation where I tried to take classes at Notre Dame this semester but wasn't able to. I was supposed to drop those classes. Too bad, I wasn't aware of that. Well a semester goes by, I'm still enrolled and teacher tries to fail me. Well needless to say that got taken care of.

That brings us to now. Woke up, finally mailed those cards out. Hope they get to their owners soon. Went shopping with my grandma; that was interesting. Of course with this whole $500 violin thing hanging over my head, she's not getting me anything for Christmas. That is A-OK with me. I wasn't expecting anything. Especially after that. I have a job, I can buy my own shit. What annoyed me is how she kept rubbing it in my face. I mean it is her money she just put out there, so she has the right to rub it in my face. It just annoys me. But I guess life is annoying. Or maybe it's just me. I wrote my mom back finally. I had a nice letter from her. I know she's discouraged, but I'd be lying if I said I never thought it end up this way.  Oh well, that's life. And this is day one.
