Here I was, in Colorado and so far half of the REASON I went there was becoming a good one. Half of the questions I had were being answered. I had actually thought to myself that maybe distance had done me well. Perhaps that romantic fire I once felt was now just a lowly memory of my college freshman year. Oh, how wrong was I. At that second concert however, although I did see Josh Bell on stage, I didn't even catch a glimpse of "him." I had had fantasies, if you will, of what should have happened between us now that he knew I was down there. What actually happened however, was something even I could not dream up.
It was after that final concert. I had [AGAIN] stuck around in hopes of [AGAIN] accidentally running into "him" well much to my surprise, I would be sitting there in the middle of the night for a while, as he had gone off to do his duties as Artist Liasion. At the hour of 8 and in the middle of the rain, I sat and waited. Waited for him to come back. To pull up and see me. Ask what on earth I was still doing there in the middle of the night alone? And I'd answer with some lame excuse. Then we'd sit down and talk and basically just catch--attempt to answer any further questions. That didn't happen. Once again it was all in my head. Here's what really happened. I sat there for approximately 3 hours and wait for something to happen. When after 3 hours NOTHING happened, I left.
Upon forcing myself to leave, I began to cry. Reality was finally sinking in, and that little fantasy I had been living for the past 2 1/2 years--and had forced everyone to reside in as well--was finally over. I cried hard. However, my question had been answered and I got what I came for... closure. Or so I thought. That night, after leaving that fantasy back at the concert hall, I found myself in a dilemma. I had a flight the next morning around 7:35 AM out of Denver, and I had no way of getting from Vail. Getting Denver to Vail was like getting from South Bend to Indianapolis. It was not as easy as a taxi cab. I had my work cut out for me, and so began a night of searching to find a way to make this happen. When it all came down to it, I wasn't getting out of Vail that night. The managers of the hotel I was staying at were nice enough to give me a room in their annex. I had a place to sleep for the night, but I didn't get much sleep. Instead, I stayed up and pondered ways of getting out of Vail and into Denver. Ways that wouldn't cost me a fortune that I didn't have.
Ironically, what it all came down to was "He" was my only option. I didn't want to ask, especially after the night I had had, but I had no other choice. But of course, everything with me had to be done the hard way. I simply couldn't just call him that night and get everything squared away. I barely had a phone and it did not have his number in it. So facebook messaging it was--a poor choice of communication considering he never got online, or answered messages. I ended up going on a night long search for the guy. When at 4AM this search had led me no where, I bowed out. I checked out of the free hotel I was staying in and slowly but surely began my death march down to the transfer center.
Upon arrival to the transfer center, the clock was ticking for me to either get a hold of "him" or figure out a way to get to Denver. An hour past and I miss my scheduled flight, but I was able to get a hold of a friend who had "his" number. I called only to have him smugly respond to me on the phone exactly what I was telling him was NOT working. I hung up on him and preceded to be angry in my seat. Giving myself every reason I could think of to stay angry. Finally, I pulled up britches, dried my weeping eyes and walked up to the transfer center booth to see what other options I had to get myself out of Vail. Come to find out, the one thing I could afford was the Greyhound and the next trip out of the Vail was at 3:40PM. You do the math! Despite the fact that I had already missed my flight, that wasn't going to work. However, it was my only option.
While standing at the booth to make these arrangements, I see someone in my peripherals. My first thoughts are to hurry and get out of this person's way so they can handle their business. As I'm wrapping up this little meeting with the person at the information booth, I go to turn around and return to my seat and "he" is standing there. Words cannot express exactly what I felt at the moment, but if I had to pick one, I'd pick SHOCK. Despite all of these emotions running through my body, all I could manage to say at that very moment was "Hi." I had fantasized if you will about him showing up out of no where and basically rescuing from this mess I found myself in, but after that phone call I never thought he'd actually do it--Especially after a year of silence between the two of us. So I stood there practically [mesmerized] by how good he looked *MELT* telling him the "story" of what happened. Little did I know, to rescue me was exactly what he was there to do.
Eighty dollars later, I was on a shuttle headed back to Denver where I would meet my next problem. It was the type of thing that happened in movies, yet here I was. He was forever on my mind. I returned home in much mental and emotional peace despite the fact that I was being beaten up by everyone about the details of my trip--I lied like a dog, and will continue to do so. I had 4 questions that I needed answer and I received 3 out of those 4. He did care, it's just a matter of how much.
