Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same, you wanna go where everybody knows your name.

The Last Straw?

It came as a complete shock. Something I thought would blow over like they always do. However, the next thing I knew, she had put in her 2 weeks notice. I can't help thinking this is all going to come back  to haunt me; to bite me in the ass. She's preparing to go yet here I stay, preparing for my next shift.

For those of you who do not know, I'm referring to my job. The infamous Martin's Supermarket Corporation of Northern Michiana has held my loyal employment since high school. Someone once said, "You worked at Martin's at lease once if you were from South Bend." The statement is true. It's almost like a rite-of-passage to have your first job be with Martin's if you're from the area, and they praise you for it. "Keep up the good work," they say; "You're headed in the right direction," they say. However, what they don't know is that it's hell working there.

When I first started working there, I loved it--like most. There's something about having a job, and making your own money that instills a sense of independence. Then life hits you and you look up and realize that you have all of these bills and you're working from pay check to pay check because the little $100-150 you make a week are not going to cut it. So you try to find outlets within the corporation where you can excel into promotion. I tried that. Unfortunately, things pretty much go downhill when the only manager that actually likes you moves on to bigger and better things at a different corporal branch.

Now I dread the job, yet I put up with it because I need the money. However, when my co-worker puts in her two weeks notice for something that was really her fault to begin with, it hits a nerve for me. She obviously has enough brains to realize that she deserves to be treated better than what we receive at that establishment. The first chance she got, she was gone. So what's wrong with me?
