Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same, you wanna go where everybody knows your name.

Such a Professional

So there's this guy. (big surprise) whom lately I can't seem take my mind off of. But I screwed it up (naturally, I mean what else am I good for). I won't say his name but I will tell you our story. Let's go back a bit to the summer of my freshman year of college when I dealt with a guy I found myself relatively obsessed with; this guy who had just graduated and I couldn't have been more devastated about it. That was a rough summer. Of course, it wouldn't even begin to compare to some of the summers to come. Having been permanently separated from this guy, I found myself needing to do something with my meaningless life. I was about to be a sophomore in college and I didn't have much to show for it. Very few of my college freshman memories didn't involve this guy whom I had made my muse. To this day, that is the one thing I regret.

The end of the summer was approaching, and I enrolled in band camp at ND for the first time, if only as a manager. No, I didn't get the position but there's something about band camp that just gets you pumped for the beginning of the semester. It was the perfect start to what would become an awesome year. How ironic is it to have this chapter of my life end and the next begin simultaneously? What I didn't know then is that there would be much overlap. It had come to my attention that someone, a freshman, had developed a crush on me. He had joined orchestra that year, along with band and glee club (the TRIFECTA) but it wasn't until after our fall concert that he and I were properly introduced. Dan always made an effort to throw parties after concerts and this one was particularly fun. We had both ridden over with a mutual friend. Stayed for a bit, shared a drink, and left early to make it back just in time for drummer circle.

Over the next semester, this guy didn't waste anytime letting me know how he felt. Even though, I mainly saw him as this dorky little freshman, I was flattered to have him tell me such news. Even though he was a freshman, and I NEVER date down, I gave him a chance. He blew it. Big time. Multiple times. Yet, there was something about him that I couldn't really shake. The next thing I know, I'm forming on a crush on the guy as he went about is merry way. Needless to say, the tables had turned between us and I was now the obsessive crusher. It was all fun and innocent at first. A text message here, a Facebook message there, fun time on LaFortune better known as LAFUN--but then it got serious. In fact, it got really serious; really fast.

The end of the school year came and with everything I was hit with at the end of the school year, I just needed a friend. He was there as a friend, offering a warm hug and smile. You'd get hooked after that as well. Summer of my sophomore year going into my junior (we all know what happened and who was involved, we don't need to revisit that) he stuck there right by my side as the friend that I so desperately need. He was the only person who knew the entire story and he didn't look at me with disgust or disappointment as my family did. I found myself constantly lost in his eyes (I'm a sucker for the eyes).

Now things are slightly different between us for a number of reasons, but I will always be grateful for the unexpected friend I've made. Maybe something will happen between us (Most likely not) but for now, I'm perfectly content with his friendship.
