I have a friend, whom I met about 3 or 4 months ago. This friend of mine is a pianist. He is out-of-this-world talented in his craft. We met through the pit orchestra of a production this summer, "Thoroughly Modern Millie." Despite the fact that he--to this day--claims to hate the show because the experience he dealt with, I for one, had an awesome time doing it. When I first met, the first day of rehearsals, I had no intention of which. I was simply picking up my pit score and he was rehearsing with the stars of the show. Needless to say, I was practically blown away by how good he was. Possibly better than a lot of teachers that I know play the piano.
That was a concrete example of exactly small the world is when it comes to the music community. I never expected to make so many friends and we all have one thing in common: We love music. Or at lease we love playing it. I played in two orchestras in high school. The South Bend Youth Symphony and my school orchestra at Washington. I'd never admit this out loud, mainly because when it came to my school orchestra we pretty much sucked, but despite the not so great experiences I had regarding such, I always had a blast. I'm very blessed to have been exposed to music at such a young age. Even now, I learn something new with every experience. It's absolutely amazing sometimes. Just awesome.
